Looking after your tattoo

Please keep your wrap on for a minimum of 2 hours. (or until you next shower) Remove the wrapping and cleanse the area thoroughly with warm/hot water with clean hands (or shower) You do NOT need to use soap. You may notice some ink residue in the wrap, this is completely normal and is just the excess weeping out. It is normal for your tattoo to sting a fair bit whilst cleaning as it is a wound. You may rewrap your tattoo once before bed if you wish to. This will prevent it from leaking onto your bedding/clothing the first night and makes the tattoo a little less sore to sleep with on the first night. If you do this make sure the tattoo is clean and dry before wrapping and to use a fresh sheet of clingfilm– then follow the cleaning procedure again in the morning.

After this, pat the area dry with a clean towel or kitchen roll. From tomorrow, start using the aftercare cream. Please use something as natural as possible, e.g Hustle butter (we sell this in the studio) or Palmers cocoa butter. Do not use Savalon/bepanthan or anything like this, as this will harm the healing of your tattoo.

Cream your tattoo 2-4 times a day (Or when you feel your tattoo is dry). It's important to not overly saturate your tattoo, and to only use a small amount, just enough to keep it moisturised. Over creaming will keep the tattoo too moist and won't allow it to breathe. After 2 weeks more cream can be used to remove the last layer of healing skin if you wish.

While healing, your tattoo with scab and/or peel like sunburn. It's important to not pick your tattoo and be wary of catching it on tight clothing. If your scabs are picked/pulled off purposely this can affect how well your tattoo heals and can forcibly remove the ink from your piece. When your tattoo is peeling – most of this will fall off naturally, most likely in the shower etc.

Do not bathe/submerge your tattoo for at least 2 weeks. You may get it wet, but do not keep it submerged for a long amount of time. Do not sunbathe for at least 3 weeks – this will make your tattoo fade drastically. It's always good if you can keep your tattoo out of the sun in the long run as this will prevent any fading later on.
